Uwell Tripod PCC Review by Tim-Cover

The Uwell Tripod, from the celt rune language meaning “I tried a pod once and now I have 3” and also the invaders from Mars from War of the Worlds so will this take over the world? Let’s check out my Uwell Tripod PCC Review now.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I opened the parcel and on the box was a picture of it in gold, I wanted gold, shiny, shiny gold my precious so I open the box and oh, it’s dark green. Why did they take away my dreams of wearing this as bling like a vaping Mr T? The green is nice though and I took it out of the box and the top flashed at me, for a second I thought it was going to slowly open up with some vapour coming from inside and there would be a little xenomorph who would hand me the device. That didn’t happen but after opening it there’s the device with a pod already on top and on the back 2 spare pods. Pictures explain this better than me so have some….

The theory with this is that you have the container which acts as a power bank, when the device runs out of power you put it in the container and it charges it up. I’ll come on to the container later. Spec wise there’s not a lot to report really, the device battery is 370mAh, the container is 1000mAh, the pods contain 1.2ohm coils, can hold 2ml of liquid and have a maximum output of 11w. What’s the minimum? What’s the normal? No idea but it’s 11w with a full battery and then it drops off as you deplete the battery. It has loads of protections and if you really want all the technical ins and outs you can find them easily online.

I’m gonna ramble about the pods and device itself then I’ll come on to the casing and then we’ll see what happens at the end.

THE DEVICE

So, the little device itself and I mean it is small indeed, here it is against the standardised unit of measure, a Lego person.

Uwell Tripod PCC Review

It’s small, it’s light, there’s not a lot to it really, the pod snaps into place, you take a draw, that’s it. There’s no fire button but to be honest you don’t need it as the auto-draw works exceptionally well, it’s worked every time without fail even towards the end of the battery life. The draw is good, it’s not super tight but it’s very cig-a-like which is ideal for anyone looking to switch to vaping. Now, the flavour is really rather good too. For a pod system and especially one this small it’s surprisingly impressive. The battery life though, well it’s 370mAh so it runs out before you empty the pod of liquid but we’ll discuss the battery as part of our finale.

THE CONTAINER/POWERBANK

This houses the device and your 2 spare pods, I mean who doesn’t want to be able to switch flavours in and instant? You take the pod out of the device, you open the container, switch to a different pod and boom, new flavour! 3 to choose from as well! I like the ability to switch flavours easily so this was a plus for me. To charge the device you open the container, push into the fitting and voila, it’s charging. The white lights on the top of the container flash to show it’s charging and also show the battery level of the container. When not charging you can double tap the top of the container and it will show you the container life left with said white dots. To charge the container takes about an hour using the provided USB-C cable which plugs in at the erm top of the container. Wait a second, when I put the device in to charge it was upside down as well, ah it goes the other way up! Hang on, but then I won’t be able to see the white dots to indicate when it’s charging or see battery life. WHICH WAY UP DOES THIS THING GO??? I’ve kept it on it’s side when in the house and when out and about well it’s in my bag so I don’t care which way round it’s been. The container is nice enough and opens smoothly and then is held in place by a not very strong magnet and everything seems to be held in place nicely but not so tight you struggle to change pods or slot the device in at any point.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS on Uwell Tripod PCC Review

Well, the draw is good, the flavour is really good, vapour production is good, you can easily switch between flavours, the pods have lasted me a week and are still going and I’ve had zero leaks, this seems awesome, it is right? Well it is and it isn’t. The vape itself is difficult to find fault with and if you were just moving to vaping from smoking then you’ll find the vape satisfying and would be a good device to start with. The problem is the battery life and the execution of the concept. I understand what they are trying to do and I applaud Uwell for trying a new innovation but it’s where this falls down. The pod battery life just isn’t big enough and the container is too big. I’d have preferred the Uwell Duo where the container is slightly longer and you have 2 devices which have a better battery life, that way you could still switch flavours but the vape would last longer. They also need to add a USB-C port to the device itself so that if you do take it out without the container then you can charge it from a phone charger, a powerbank heck I could even charge it from my MVP5. I did wish for this as then I could take my MVP5 with a tank and then the little device for salts and when it ran out charge it from the MVP5 that would be ideal for me. You can take the container out with you but it’s a bit too big and if you can charge it at say a friend or relative’s house they might wonder why you are charging a sample container.

I love this device and at the same time I kind of hate it too. I like the little device on it’s own and I’ve been taking it out with me on walks or to do the food shop and it’s worked really well. However I can’t see me carrying the container around if I’m out of the house for any length of time due to the size, it would look silly in my jeans pocket and if I was asked by anyone what that was in my pocket and I reply “my Tripod” I may well find myself being questioned by the Police. The fact that, even with the container, if I was out all day it wouldn’t last me is an issue for me. At home using it I seem to be forever making sure everything is charged which is a bit of a chore but the vape itself is absolutely spot on.

This is to Uwell and all other pod manufacturers – please stop making pods where you can’t replace the coil.

You can get this device for $37.67 (didn’t log in) or $22.91 if you sign in.
