Uwell Caliburn A2 Reviewed

866

Titans of the industry, Uwell, have put a lot of top notch setups in vaper’s hands over the years. Probably most known for their original “Caliburn” pod that took the vape world by storm a few years ago, and their “Crown” tanks, they’ve established themselves as one of the most well known brands in vaping, with other products such as the Havok, Yearn, Valyrian, Zumwalt and many more.

Today’s review is from their Caliburn range, it’s the latest of the range after the original and the Caliburn G, and inherits most of their same traits, with a few some new styling and an excellent airflow.

Let’s take a look at Uwell’s Caliburn A2 Pod!

Big thanks goes to the legends at Health Cabin, for sending this through for me to review!

General Info

At first glance you might not notice much of a difference between the new Caliburn A2, and the previous iterations, but if you take a close look, you can see the evolving features. The original Caliburn was a complete success, it had sharper edges, a Micro USB port, a thinner duck bill mouthpiece and dual firing. The second version, the Caliburn G, saw Uwell improve a few things, but not quite to everyone’s expectations. It had an improved USB Type C port, smoother edges, including more rounded mouthpiece, as well as 2 different airflows depending on which way you put the pod into the device.

The Caliburn A2 sees a bit of a blend of the two previous versions. It’s still the same size, with all of the same basic functionalities, but this time around Uwell have improved the mouthpiece to be a bit of a hybrid of previous models, and the main body is smoother, cleaner looking, with an additional e-liquid window included. (which I know a lack of one was one of the main issues from earlier releases.) Pods are also now magnetic, rather than the push fit original design.

In a nutshell, the Caliburn A2 is a 15 Watt device with a 2ml e-liquid capacity, it has dual fire both button and auto-draw, a USB Type C port and all new magnetic Pod connection.

The Body

As mentioned earlier, the Caliburn A2 is a similar size to the original Caliburn, except Uwell have gotten rid of all of the ridges and gone with a smooth as smooth finish. The coating on the body has a slight satin finish to it too, it’s not completely smooth, but it feels excellent in the hand and is definitely not a fingerprint magnet.

Up top is your pod recess, that sports a couple of magnets, yep that’s right, this version you simply drop in the Pod and the magnets take care of the rest, no difficult press fit design, nothing but a smooth snap! Below this is the window cutout, allowing you to see the side of your Pod and how much e-liquid you have left. This is something that the original and Caliburn G really needed, and now we have it! Each edge has a single tiny airflow hole to allow air in and under the Pod. You can adjust your airflow by blocking off one of these airholes if you so desire, just like many did with the OG.

The button on the front is pretty sweet, it’s completely familiar to the previous releases, with it sitting almost completely flush with machined finish for a little grip, of course the Caliburn A2 also comes with auto-draw so it’s completely up to you if you want to even use the button or not.

Right down the bottom, you’ll find a small led light that shows you your battery level. Something sorely lacking in the other versions, and you’ll find a USB Type C charge port right on the base.

The PODs

The pods for the A2 are completely new, so you won’t be able to use them on the previous caliburn versions. While they are similar in function, this time around, these pods which are only available in 0.9 ohm resistance, offer up superior leak resistance, magnets on the base, silicone seal in the fill port, and a more refined mouthpiece. A mouthpiece that is not quite as rounded as the Caliburn G, but not quite as defined as the original Caliburn.

These 2ml capacity pods are lightly frosted, with a cap that simply snaps off when pushed sideways, to reveal the filling area. Provided here is a larger fill port with red silicone seal, as well as a small air vent to allow air to release as you are filling for faster and less messy filling experience.

The 0.9 ohm pod has some fantastic bright flavour to it, and they tend to last quite a while too, I’ve been using mine for a good two weeks now and the first pod is showing no signs of slowing down soon!!

Airflow

As mentioned earlier, there is a single tiny air hole on each edge of the body, which allows the air to pass up under and through the pod. That combined with the 0.9ohm 15Watt pods provide a really nice slightly open MTL draw, or very restricted DTL draw. I’d best describe the airflow as slightly tighter than the original, of which I found way too loose for proper MTL vaping. This hits the spot, unless you love your really tight MTL draws.

Battery

The battery in the Caliburn A2 is only 520mah in capacity, which isn’t a lot, but considering the higher resistance pods, and the maximum wattage of 15 Watts, that 520mah should easily get you a day of vaping. As a bonus, it will also charge super fast too. Uwell have also added a battery level indicator on the Caliburn A2 in the form of an LED near the base, which will light up a different colour depending on your battery level.

  • Green: 60-100%
  • Blue: 30-60%
  • Red: 0-30%

Filling

Filling. It’s as simple as the original. Just snap off the mouthpiece, and fill using the red silicone fill port. Too easy.

Any Leaks?

The new pods that the Caliburn A2 uses have improved structure, and better leak resistance. Leaking was a big problem on the original, and I’m pleased to say, that I’ve had no leaking at all with the A2. Excellent work on this Uwell.

Pros

  • Sleek and stylish
  • Lovely finish
  • Dual firing, button and auto-draw
  • Nice airflow level
  • Leak Proof pods
  • USB Type C charge port
  • New e-liquid window
  • New battery light indicator
  • Ergonomic mouth piece

Cons

  • Airflow is slightly loose so vapers who like ultra tight MTL airflow, will not like this.

Conclusion

I’ve been quietly impressed by the Caliburn A2, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the original due to it’s more open airflow, but the A2 seems to be a little tighter, which suits my preferred MTL vaping style a lot more.
It’s been a wonderful few weeks vaping this, due to it’s excellent flavour, instant firing, really responsive auto-draw, and long lasting battery. This has literally lived in my jacket pocket for the full two weeks getting use every day, and the original pod is still going strong.

Where to Buy

Where would we be without a link to purchase the Caliburn A2! Health Cabin sent this through for me to review, so I’m going to drop a link to their site where you can purchase the Caliburn A2 for around the $35 AUD mark. You should also be able to find them at many other local stores for a similar price.
