Uwell Aeglos Pod Review by Shane-Cover

Uwell have made a splash lately, not only with their original Caliburn and Koko POD devices, but also recently with their upgraded Caliburn G and Koko Prime. Theyā€™re a world leader when it comes to POD devices and with so many units sold, itā€™s safe to say, they know what they are doing!

Today, Iā€™ll be taking a look at one of their newer devices. Itā€™s not quite as small as the Koko or the caliburn, but itā€™s just as comfortable, and for a POD device aimed at those who like a restricted direct to lung inhale, does a fantastic job at meeting the demands of itā€™s target audience!

Letā€™s take a look at the Uwell Aeglos Pod!!

Big thanks goes to Health Cabin for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info

Featuring a 1500mah internal battery, 3.5ml e-liquid capacity, fast charge USB Type ā€“ C port, and a top end Power output of 60 Watts, the Aeglos instantly cements itself as a desirable device due to itā€™s generous specifications. Add to that lineup, a very readable large single colour display, easy to manage adjustable airflow, easy to see e-liquid levels in the POD, and super easy filling, and youā€™ve got yourself a winner.

The Body

The general shape of the Aeglos is more along the lines of an AIO, very stick-like but squared off with rounded corners, making sure that it sits really comfortably in the hand. The main body is made from and Alluminium alloy, making sure itā€™s as light as possible, and it is exactly that.

You have your usual bells and whistles, POD recess in the top, airflow slots off to the side, power button, display and up/down buttons all on the same face with a USB Type-C charge port on the bottom.

One thing youā€™ll find interesting is the inside of the POD recess. Where you might expect a couple of gold plated contact pins and some magnets, instead, youā€™ll find the adjustable airflow mechanism. Iā€™ll explain a little later how it works, but for now, know that to adjust the airflow, youā€™ll need to remove the POD first.

The display is a very simple single colour display, nothing to fancy, but everything is laid out quite nicely, easy to read and the placement of all of the information is very intuitive.

The PODs & Coils

The PODs are designed similarly to the Caliburn PODs, clear main PCTG plastic so you can see your e-liquid levels, with a black duckbill drip tip or mouth piece. You can replace the coil in these, by simply pushing the coil home from underneath, just like many other POD devices available, making this just that little more future proof than the Caliburn and itā€™s one-piece POD counterparts.

Instead of magnets, Uwell have opted for a friction fit, with the POD clipping into the main body with not a lot of movement, so it can be a bit of effort pushing it home. Eventually, this frees up a little though so, while there may be a bit of a concern for those with hand/joint issues, this does get easier.

The fill port is hidden under the top cap just like the Caliburn, of which youā€™ll need to remove first, (just like the Caliburn) Give it a push backward and the black duck bill mouth piece will click off cleanly, putting the fill port and vent hole on display.

Youā€™ll receive 2 different coils in the pack, both have excellent flavour ( I wouldnā€™t expect anything less from Uwell ) and both operate at their own ā€˜bestā€™ wattage settings.

  • 0.23Ohm mesh coil (pre-installed): 40-45 Watts
This coil is my favourite of the two, mainly because Iā€™m a restricted direct to lung kind of guy. It pushes out some nice dense vapour, with excellent flavour at the 40 watt mark, and doesnā€™t really need to be pushed any further than that.
  • 0.8Ohm round wire coil: 20-23 Watts
This coil will suit the Mouth to Lung vapers, and maxes out at about 23 Watts, just strong enough to get a really warm Mouth to lung vape without going overboard. It sings at a lower wattage however, with the airflow closed down quite a way, where youā€™ll be able to get a nice tight draw with excellent flavour.

Airflow

As I mentioned earlier, the Aeglos has quite a unique adjustable airflow, with the adjustment mechanism hidden under the POD inside the POD recess. You turn the disk inside clockwise for more airflow, and anti-clockwise for less. What this does is move the ring around exposing or un-exposing a small cyclops style airflow hole in the side of the ring, which lines up nicely with both the coils airflow, and the airflow slots in the body of the device.

There is quite a lot of movement here, so you can really dial in your preferred airflow, from a tight MTL draw to a losely restricted DTL draw.
You do need to remove the POD to change the airflow, which can be a bit of a pain, but youā€™d normally set it and forget it anyway.

I like how Uwell have done this, itā€™s quite clever and hidden away, so as to not get in the way all of the time. In fact if you werenā€™t looking for it, you might be mistaken to think the Aeglos didnā€™t have airflow control at all!

Battery

The Aeglos has a 1500mah internal battery, which is a pretty good size for the total size of the device. It does last quite a while, but youā€™ll obviously go through it a lot quicker if youā€™re using the 0.23ohm coil running at a higher wattage.

Thankfully Uwell have also given us a USB Type-C charge port for faster charging, this will get you charged in under an hour.

Filling

Filling the Aeglos is simple. Remove the top black mouthpiece by pushing backward on it with your thumb to expose the self sealing fill port and vent hole. Do not fill via the red centre hole. Off to one side is the fill port covered by a clear silicone, simply push your bottle nozzle in there and squeeze away. Youā€™ll know when youā€™re getting full because the air vent on the other side might begin to leak a little eliquid from it.

Stop there, clip the mouth piece back on and youā€™re done!

Any Leaks?

None at all, not in the 2 weeks Iā€™ve been using this device. Not even any seepage.

Usage

he menu system in the Aeglos is straight forward. See below for some button combinations.

  • Power On/Off : Five clicks of the fire button
  • Lock/Unlock device: Pressing the fire button and the ā€“ button together.
  • Wattage Lock: Pressing the fire button and the + button will lock or unlock only the wattage adjustment.
  • Reset puff counter: press the + and ā€“ buttons simultaneously.

Pros

  • Small and comfortable
  • Excellent flavour and dense vapour
  • Simple to operate and use
  • Simple no nonsense display
  • Fast Charging
  • Coils last a long time
  • Decent battery and e-liquid capacity

Cons

  • Would have liked a slightly larger e-liquid capacity
  • Would have liked a slightly longer battery life
  • I feel magnets to hold the POD in place might have worked better.

Conclusion

I like their hidden airflow adjustment, itā€™s quite ingenious, and their no frills displays is very well organised, and easy to read.

I had a hard time coming up with any ā€˜consā€™ for this one, and as you can see, they are mainly preferences, larger e-liquid capacity, longer battery life.

Really great job on this one Uwell, itā€™s likely to stay in my pocket for some time to come!

Where to Buy

You can get your hands on the Uwell Aeglos POD directly through Health Cabins online store, for about the $50 AU mark. Itā€™s a little on the expensive side at that price, but youā€™ll get a cheaper price once youā€™re logged in to their website, approximately $30 AU.
