Uwell Aeglos Pod Review

Ohhh shiny shiny. I do like me some shiny. Some are even glittery too. You can’t go wrong with a bit of glitter and sparkle, particularly at Christmas. All that’s missing here is the baubles and lights.

This is all rather pretty, don’t you think?

Given that it must be getting harder to make your pod kits stand out from the crowd, particularly in such an oversaturated market, Uwell have done rather well with this new Aeglos kit – and to be honest I’m rather excited to receive it, even though I’ve been becoming a bit bored with all these identi-kit pods recently.

So in this instance it’s a rather odd review for me to be taking. To be honest I didn’t even really want to do it when Sue from Healthcabin asked me to but I didn’t want to be rude and reject the offer particularly after she’s been so nice and kind to me.

We’d actually been discussing some other kits, but she very kindly threw this one in as a little bonus for me to do. I think she just wants to keep me busy – or couldn’t find anyone else to do it!

In spite of this I was glad I took it and overcame my previous reservations because it certainly has a lot to offer.

The first thing I noticed when the box rolled up was how well packaged it is, and the striking gloss colouring of the pod’s front-plate and large drip-tip – in this case my pod is a lovely ‘Matte Black’ – but its shiny screen and large protruding buttons make it very attractive unit to use.

I was hopeful that if the contents of the box matched the quality of the materials used in making it then this was something I was going to be happy to sit down and spend the afternoon with – and after opening it up I found it was just that.

As I pulled out my trusty, but rather sticky, scissors, I couldn’t help but wonder what I was going to find – unsurprisingly it turned out to be the item pictured on the box, I don’t know what else I was expecting but there….

After a quick peruse of the contents, I was really rather happy.

Everything had its own little compartment and the pod sat snugly in it’s elongated and padded little recess.

Once ready to look over the details, I quickly turned to the user manual and contents list on the box to check the technical specs and find out what was included.

This turned out to be all the standard stuff like the USB cable, coil, O-rings and instruction manuals etc..

Being a Uwell device I expected this to be a small, well made and high-spec device, and it is, but the first thing I questioned was whether this might be a little under-powered at 1500mah, particularly as a 5 – 60 watter, but as it’s predominantly going to be sold to MTL users I soon disregarded that notion and decided it’s not going to be a much of a problem given the likely market.

Given the clientele I soon thought you’d probably get a reasonable day’s vaping out of it if you’re not too heavy – and in use this was proven pretty much correct.

Oddly though, it comes set up more geared to the DTL users, with the lower 0.23 ohm coil installed and the 0.8 one as a spare – suggesting Uwell may think this little device is more geared towards the cloud crowd.

That said, once I’d installed the spare 0.8 ohm coil it suited my style of intermediate MTL vaping down to the ground – and for my meagre usage I never came close to running out of juice – in any sense.

Obviously if you want to heavily DTL the 0.23 coil at 60w you’re not going to get more than a couple of hours out of it but that’s more than enough time to impress your colleagues down the wine bar with your shimmery metallic sparkles! Not that they’ll appreciate the amount of vapor this thing kicks out I suppose…

The second thing I noticed was the juice capacity – a rather respectable 3.5ml for the standard version, and 2ml for the TPD one.

I’m sure there’ll eventually be a way of having a dexterous family member increase that 2ml to the full 3.5ml for you if you’re that way inclined… but as a top filler you better make sure they don’t damage the fill membrane – or you could always just order the standard one from Healthcabin instead.

Having owned a Uwell product before, I was expecting this pod to be nicely made, and upon removing it from it’s soft, padded compartment with its helpful ribbon I wasn’t disappointed.

It’s a very small and extremely lightweight device, that had immediately pleasing aesthetics and seemingly high quality materials – but it did carry one major surprise…

Under the pod, it features a very large analogue air-flow dial seemingly from a 1980s toaster… I couldn’t help but feel it looked out of place, even though it is solid and does work very well.

It doesn’t matter, but jeez it’s huge, it’s proportionally much larger than anything I’ve seen on a vape device recently, but I’ll give it it’s dues. It’s sturdy, easy to grip and not going to break. It just left me wondering where to put the bread!

After that I only had pleasant perceptions of it though.

I found the rest of the mod to be made of a nicely smoothed aluminium alloy and the plastics to be a nice thick, smooth and high quality compound with a nice slightly mottled, grainy texture on the buttons.

I found the mod to be almost roundedly rectangular in shape and at just 10.8 cm tall x 26.9 mm x 26.3 mm in width and depth, it made for a beautifully small and natural hand-feel, without any annoying corners to dig into your delicate, moisturised paws – while still allowing you to find the front and slightly separated buttons without really having to look for them.

Pleasingly there’s also enough space between those aforementioned clickers to locate each intuitively, and a power button large enough above the 0.96mm OLED screen to find also without looking.

The screen itself is a nice tall, wide affair, seeming much bigger than it actually is – having large White text set against a nice black background.

It contains all the data you’ll need, and is stacked neatly into organised horizontal rows.

The other really nice thing about this pod is the effort Uwell has put into keeping things clean. Despite it only having a choice of two coils, these both have four O-Rings a-piece and feature something called ‘self cleaning technology’ and a ‘silicone check valve’ – but don’t ask me what that is, I have no idea!

The choice of colours is also really nicely thought out. There’s no flashy, attention grabbing garish designs here, just nice, classy arrays of metallic Gold, Red or Blue, plus a tasteful Grey and Matte Black.

Above this is a rotatable transparent, side-vented pod – that allows you a clear view of the liquid and the ability to tighten or loosen the draw to your taste.

It also features a wide, full width mouthpiece, which is probably a little too wide for my tastes and could have been a little narrower.

Even as someone getting a little bored of pods, I’m happy to own and be seen with this one. It’s a highly stylish, extremely lightweight piece of kit and stands out well above the crowd.

My only real criticism is still the low-ish battery capacity, but it does at least keep the weight down to a very piddly 80g, and feature type-c fast charging.

All in all, I enjoyed doing this review and have to thank @healthcabin’s Sue for sending it to me.

Uwell is still proving that pods have something to offer and the market for new ideas [and analogue dials] isn’t over just yet.

If you want one you can get one from Healthcabin for £29.87 here and can get a further 30% off if you log in, and another 10% as a new customer.

So, if you are in the market for a new pod, this one is strongly worth a look.
