Dovpo M VV II box mod review

In the box
The Dovpo M VV II comes packaged in a compact cardboard box with a clear window on the front so you can see the design on the mod. Mine came in the “Dragon Samurai” variant, there is also “Hannya” (another Japanese inspired design) and “Skull and roses” (a rock/biker gang inspired one). The designs are all quite bold and may not be to everyone’s taste. Inside you’ll also find the usual manual and safety cards etc. along with a USB type C cable.

The main body of the mod is constructed from polycarbonate which means it’s surprisingly lightweight in the hand, especially without batteries installed, but it still manages to feel quite sturdy. Despite this I found no creaks or squeaks whilst in use.
The colourful side panels are repeated on both sides and have a raised/embossed surface which gives them a great tactile feel, but if you were hoping for replaceable panels down the line, only one side is removable, so you’re going to be stuck with the design you’ve chosen. So choose wisely!
On top is a nice spring loaded, centered 510 platform and I’ve had no issues with this in use. Atomizers up to 25mm are accommodated easily but anything larger will have overhang on the sides thanks to the slightly beveled edges on the mod.
The front features a large fire button near the top, and a potentiometer wheel near the bottom with a bright LED indicator just above this. The LED will flash red/amber/green when turning things on/off and is also used to indicate remaining battery voltage, (green over 7.6V, Amber 7V to 7.6V, red below 6.9V) and will flash other combinations for errors like short circuit (red x5), no atomizer (green x3), low voltage (yellow x10), overheat (amber x10) overtime (amber x8).
Opening the battery door reveals a cleanly designed battery sled with spring loaded battery caps on the bottom and a ribbon cable to aid in battery removal. This is a series dual 18650 mod. The battery door is quite hefty and constructed from zinc alloy unlike the main body. This is held in place by two concealed magnets plus the large lugs you can see at the top and bottom of the panel. It also sits slightly inside the raised lip formed by the main body which ensures that there is absolutely no movement in the panel whilst in use. For added safety there is also an insulator stuck to the inside of the panel where the batteries sit to reduce the risk of accidental shorts.
On the right hand edge you will find the concealed USB C charging port.
Set up and usage
This is my first potentiometer mod and I’ve been having an absolute ball with it. I’ve previously been put off this type of mod as they generally have little or no built in safety protections, but Dovpo have designed a board for the M VV II that has pretty much every protection you would expect from a modern regulated mod. You’ll still need to have at least some understanding of ohms law as this is a very powerful series “mech” mod, but at least the onboard protections will give you a little peace of mind. Power is adjusted by turning the potentiometer wheel to the desired setting, basically adjust to taste. I matched mine up with my Manta rta ohm’d out at 0.22 which I normally run at 70W plus, and found that setting the dial to “III” gave me the perfect vape. You’ll be glad to hear that there is none of the nasty “rattlesnaking” that this type of mod is also infamous for, just smooth, clean power delivery. Five clicks of the fire button will also turn everything on/off for that extra peace of mind when placing the mod in a jacket pocket as well.
I’ve been getting amazing battery life from the M VV II as well, probably due to the cut down nature of the mod (not having to drive a large LCD screen etc.) easily getting well into the evening before the batteries give up. On a regulated mod I’d probably be changing the batteries by the time I got home from work. The concealed USB C charge port means that you can also charge the batteries in place should the need arise, and I recorded a charge rate of 1.75 amps in testing which fully charged a pair of Samsung 25r’s in about two and a half hours.
You’re probably thinking that all this performance comes at a cost, well this is the best bit! It’s $26.64 over at Healthcabin which places this firmly in the budget friendly category.
