YUMI RC5000 Review by Z-Lee-Cover

Hi folks! Today we’ll be taking a look at my review on the Yumi RC5000 which is a somewhat unique replaceable closed pod device. Like with most replaceable pod kits, the battery can be reused between pre-filled pods to reduce the amount of waste and often the cost of new pre-filled pods. However, that isn’t what makes this disposable necessarily unique. We’ll be getting into that later in the review.

I want to thank Sue over at HealthCabin for supplying the Yumi RC5000 for this review. As per norm, this critique will be conducted in a fair and honest manner.

⇒ TESTING RESULTS & OBSERVATIONS ⇐

I had the ability to request the flavors above, which are Pink Lemonade, Energy Drink, Sour Apple, Watermelon, and Cola. I figured this would give me a fairly well-rounded assessment on flavor accuracy, being that they’re not all fruit flavors.

Each of the 5 kits I received include both a pre-filled pod and a battery. Under normal circumstances, you’d buy one of these as an initial purchase.

This is a reminder that the product in this review is the RC5000 (RC meaning replaceable cartridge) and should not be confused with the DC5000 (disposable cartridge). When assembled, the DC5000 looks almost identical to the RC5000. Each contain 8 mL of e-liquid which is estimated to give around 5000 puffs, and you’ll receive two of them with each package purchased.

A big positive for the RC5000 (and other Yumi products) is that it’s offered in 20 mg/ML (2%) nicotine, 50 mg/mL (5%), and also nicotine-free, although the nicotine-free version isn’t currently available at HealthCabin. A variation in nicotine concentration is something offered by very few disposable products being sold in the US. I believe Innokin’s Innobar and some of their other disposable products are the only other ones that I’m aware of that offer a lower than 5% nicotine concentration which is good for those that are more sensitive to it or are looking to reduce their nicotine intake.

The boxes I received came with two separately sealed wrappers that each contained a plastic pre-filled pod, and a plastic encased battery. After taking the pod out of the wrapper, there’s a rubber plug that seals the mouthpiece, and a sticker that covers the airflow hole and the 2 connectors. With these items removed, all there’s left to do is snap them together and you’re ready to vape.

The battery is the white half of all RC5000 kits. On it, you can see where the connector pins and airflow hole connect with the pod side. On the bottom of the battery is where the USB Type-C connector port can be found.

The pod half comes in various colors that somewhat fit the flavors they come in (grape is purple, watermelon is red, etc). The choice of flavor is clearly labeled on the side of each pre-filled pod and there are also notches lining the edge where the battery goes, so that they snap in nice and snug. The connection is almost seamless, so it more or less looks like a single disposable unit. The mouthpiece is thin to allow a comfortable and secure fit between your lips, which is ideal for an MTL product.

The unique aspect I mentioned in the opening is that the pod and the battery are assembled side-by-side with the airflow inlet drawing air through the battery and into the pod in a sideways fashion. We’ve seen something kind of similar to this in the Suorin Air product line, but the airflow came from underneath the pod, they don’t offer pre-filled pods, and the Suorin Air was almost double the size. The airflow inlet is a single pinhole which gives this device a loose MTL draw. You can plug this airflow hole (located next to the USB port) for a slightly tighter draw, but in doing so, you may encounter a puff reduction as I’m not exactly sure the overall effect it will have on the pod. Suffocating a coil can lead to premature burning of the wick, boiling juice onto the coils, and various other things, so do this at your own risk.

The battery charges at 0.5A, and a total charge from a dead battery is roughly an hour.

⇒ CONCLUSION ⇐

Of the 5 flavors I received, the Cola was the only one I felt was a tad bit off. To me, it tasted more like a root beer than a cola. However, I am a fan of root beer, so I enjoyed this pod anyway. The Energy Drink pod was pretty accurate to what I’d consider an energy to taste like, and that’s pretty much sweetness, or sugar. It’s a conglomeration of fruits is the best way I can describe it. The rest of the flavors tasted like candy versions of watermelon, sour apple, and pink lemonade – they all tasted great. One thing to consider is that they are pretty heavy with mint cooling. On the initial draw, it’s almost entirely mint, but on the exhale is where you pick up the other flavorings. If you’re a fan of mint, these will certainly suit your needs.

With no puff indicator or anything of the sort, there’s really no way for me to gauge if these are actually lasting 5000 puffs. From my experiences with other disposables that advertise around 5000 puffs, the RC5000 has certainly kept up.

One big positive note that I’d like to add is that I live in MN. We’ve had a week or two this winter where our temperatures have dropped into the single digits, and even 10 or 15 below. Of all the vapes that I test in my car on my hour and a half commute to and from work, the RC5000 is the only one of them that was left in the car that has been able to be picked up and vaped w/out having to be plugged in to warm up the battery. This is certainly a big deal for anyone living in colder climates.

You may have noticed that the pre-filled pod in the package photo (up a few photos) has a bit of juice leakage in it. I wasn’t able to get this Cola pod to stop from its very slow seepage that kept making its way to the bottom of the assembled device, but it didn’t render the pod useless. I was still able to vape the pod, but avoided putting it in my pocket and kept it sitting on a paper towel. Fortunately, this was the only pod of the 5 I received that had any leakage issues. If you do encounter a leakage like this and you don’t want to return it, you can still safely vape it. There should be no concern about being electrocuted or anything like that. This is the only con I encountered during my testing.

PROS

  • Very small and petite
  • Easy to use
  • Reusable battery
  • Pretty great vape
  • 2% & 5% nicotine concentrations currently available
  • Comfortable mouthpiece
  • Flavors are pretty accurate
  • Cold-resilient battery (big pro for me)
  • USB Type-C (takes about an hour to fully charge)

CONS

  • Encountered a leak in 1 of 5 samples

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Heavy on mint cooling
  • Big on cost savings

That’s all I got for ya. If you’re interested in this kit, it can be purchased at HealthCabin for $4.49. The replacement pods can be found for $3.99 (two pods per package). This is a great product if you’re looking for something small, easy to use, cheap, and with good battery life – especially in the cold. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or leave a response in this post before it closes. I appreciate you taking the time to read this review!
